Hot Pink China Cabinet Makeover

‘Pink china cabinet? Say whaaat? She can’t be serious.’ That’s what I thought when a Texan customer said she wanted a pink china cabinet. People say they want things, but when it comes to actually putting your money on it, they bail.

Pink Is A Scary Color!

Most women are deathly afraid of choosing a fun color like hot pink for their formal dining room.

For some reason, specific colors are deemed “unserious” and hence inappropriate for specific spaces by….um…I don’t know…women themselves?

And sometimes it’s the husband who opposes, for no real reason, and I get it if that’s the case, but most of the time, I see women preemptively self-censoring their color expression, even when there is zero resistance from their spouse.

Anyhow, this client of mine actually followed through on her initial instinct. She would decide between Ben Moore Peony Pink, Gypsy Pink, and Dynamo by Sherwin Williams.

She decided on Peony Pink. It is, of course, my favorite because I used to have a peony pink dresser in my master bedroom.

She chose this lovely vintage china cabinet with bubble glass. It was a freebie – one of my customers gave it away to me.

Let’s take a moment to admire the details on the crown and the trim details on the drawers and doors.

The floral rosette details on the glass doors were so unique and beautiful that the color of a flower, peony, was the perfect choice for it.

Peony Pink + Thibaut Honshu In Navy

What was even more exciting for me was that she wanted to add Thibaut’s Honshu wallpaper in the navy colorway on the back. The captain’s formal dining room chairs have the same fabric, so it was the perfect match.

My client chose these beautiful floral polished brass knobs designed by yours truly, for her replacement hardware.

Hardware is the jewelry that completes the ensemble; don’t skip on it.

Any pink, preferably a hot pink, is the best choice to pair with Thibaut Honshu in navy.

Final Thoughts

Never in almost ten years of my painting have I had a customer who regretted her bold, fun color choice. Not even a single one! Color will make you happy, so choosing color is what I always say.
