Jasper Furniture Company’s vintage bubble glass china cabinets have been my absolute favorites for the past several years. They have very unique design elements that set them apart from other china cabinets of this era.
Unique Design Elements Of Jasper China Cabinets
- Beautiful bubble glass – Jasper bubble glass was unique because it has no fretwork, and the entire glass pane is a large bubble. Most other china cabinets have fretwork. Jasper does not.
- Inlaid gold wire – This is a tough one to describe, but the bubble glass has a gold chicken wire-like design embedded into the glass. It’s subtle and beautiful.
- Faux bamboo trim – This china cabinet combines the faux bamboo design elements with a traditional china cabinet frame. It’s a reasonably uncommon combination among vintage china cabinets.
- Hand-painted details – Chinoiserie painted details are on the doors and drawers. They are delicate and gorgeous, yet another Asian element added to a traditional china cabinet.
Jasper China Cabinet – Before/Vintage Condition
In its original vintage state, Jasper china cabinets are black and gold with gold paper on the top. If you find them in good vintage condition, they are just perfect as is.
The black and gold can be too harsh for some, and in that case, painting it would be a great idea.
Jasper Cabinet After – Painted in Pale Blue
This has been my favorite makeover of these beautiful vintage beauties. I have combined Benjamin Moore’s Breath of Fresh Air and Brunshwig & Fils wallpaper named Bird and Thistle in the blue colorway.
I chose to update the traditional hardware to these brass bamboo bar pulls. They come in two sizes. I have used both sizes on the cabinet.
I recycled the original hardware for the top doors. It was just the perfect fit for such a small available space. I didn’t feel the need to change it.
The result is this fresh, clean & airy china cabinet that can go in a dining room, a living room, or a home office.
In this iteration, I chose Schumacher’s Pyne Hollyhock, another timeless design in the blue colorway combined with Ben Moore’s Breath of Fresh Air as well.
I can’t decide which one is my favorite, but if I had to pick one, I would go with the birds!
The Dark Gray Blue Version
This was a dramatic look, especially when combined with the same Schumacher Pyne Hollyhock wallpaper. The combination of dark and light creates a moody vibe.
For this one, we kept the hardware traditional Chippendale style for the drawers and just refinished the top drawer hardware in our favorite gold paint. It looks so clean and modern.
The patina is fine for the vintage life. New life requires much brighter hardware, in my opinion.
